Philosophy

Five principles that shape every Threshold engagement.

I.

Beyond admissions

The application is the beginning, not the end. We help families think strategically about leadership, networks, AI-era preparedness, and the future of meaningful work — not only about getting in.

II.

Strategy informed from the inside

Dr. Mahdavi has chaired admissions committees and trained the readers who sit on them. Every recommendation is calibrated to how files are actually evaluated.

III.

Authenticity over performance

Admissions readers see thousands of polished applications. They remember the ones that sound like a real person. We begin by uncovering the student's actual voice — never manufacturing one.

IV.

Narrative as architecture

A strong application is not a list of accomplishments. It is a story whose parts reinforce one another. As a nine-time published author, Dr. Mahdavi treats every application as a manuscript.

V.

Calm at every threshold

Admissions is anxious by design. A counselor who has run universities brings perspective: deadlines are concrete, decisions are not the whole of a life, and there is always a next move.

A Word From the Founder

"I have spent my career on the other side of the admissions table — and at the helm of the institutions families are trying to access. My students benefit not from tricks, but from knowing how the room actually thinks, and where the world is actually going."

Dr. Mahdavi's scholarship spans nine books, two TEDx talks, and a faculty career at Pomona College. Her leadership spans a presidency, a provostship, and three deanships.

That breadth shows up in counsel as range — equally fluent in the language of the humanities, the sciences, policy, technology, and the arts.
